Aerocool, despite its name, has never really tried to enter the field of cooling systems for processors, preferring cases, power supplies and case fans to them. The first relatively successful attempt to open a new market in 2018 can be considered the CBO P7-L240, but the system did not become mass or popular and quickly disappeared from sale. Then a series of ultra-budget Verkho coolers appeared, where older models even showed quite good results in terms of temperatures, but in terms of design and noise they were, to put it mildly, “not very good”. However, they are still on sale. And just now the company decided to do something “for the soul”, with a nice design. Meet Aerocool Cylon 4. Black, beautiful and with ARGB backlight. And what about the design and efficiency? This we will soon find out. In principle, if the reader is in a hurry, then you can go straight to the second section with test results and conclusions.

Packing and scope of delivery

The cooler is packaged in a compact box with beautiful and informative color printing on the sides. It has both technical specifications and photographs explaining the main advantages of the product. Inside, the cooler is protected from damage from all sides by massive polyurethane dampers, so you don’t have to worry about its safety.

The bundle looks a little redundant, since it contains a set of three sets of fixing feet at once, each for its own processor sockets. As for me, it was possible to get by with just screws, but oh well. So the parts list is:

  • installation instructions;
  • extension cable (620 mm) for ARGB illumination with +5VDG connector;
  • a bag of thermal paste;
  • mounting feet with spring-loaded screws for Intel LGA 2011/2066;
  • mounting feet with spring-loaded screws for Intel LGA 775/115x;
  • mounting feet with spring-loaded screws for AMD AM3/AM4;
  • plastic reinforcement plate;
  • clip holders for AMD;
  • holder clips for Intel;
  • four screw clips;
  • four screws for mounting the mounting feet.

Appearance

Almost half of the cooler is occupied by a black plastic body kit, which is decisive for its design. The fan is built into the kit, a round LED insert runs along the perimeter of its frame. The width of the cooler in this projection is 126.5 mm. Height — exactly 160 mm.

On the sides, the body kit is held by the radiator with protruding plastic “ears”. In addition, the upper part of the plastic lining is integrally connected at right angles to the front. The thickness of the cooler in the profile is 76 mm.

The top plate is formed by two inclined plastic planes, between which there is a built-in strip of LEDs covered with translucent plastic. It is in this perspective that the user will see his cooler, provided there is a window in the case.

There is no plastic on the back. As well as the ability to attach a second exhaust fan.

The base of the cooler is covered with a protective film. At the bottom of the front plastic there are two rotary valves that need to be opened before removing the body kit from the radiator. Then the fan lifts up slightly to free the ends of the heat pipes and then snaps forward.

As you can see, the propeller with an 11-blade impeller has a non-standard frame and is screwed directly into it. The top six LEDs are also part of the fan. It will be almost impossible to find a replacement for him. There are two soft dampers on the bottom of the frame. Power is connected via a standard four-pin connector with a 260 mm long wire. There is also a 30 mm wire for two pins for connecting the backlight. The bearing is declared hydraulic. The speed range is officially designated in the range from 800 to 1800 rpm, although in fact we got 500-2000 rpm. The engine emits a uniform crackle, clearly distinguishable up close. The noise level does not exceed 40 dB (A) up to 850 rpm. At 2000 rpm we get 58 dB (A) from a distance of 10 mm. In general, quite tolerable, if not for the crackling at low speeds.

Radiator dimensions are 122×50 mm with a height of 148 mm. The body of the radiator is completely painted black, except for the base.

There are 48 fins in the radiator, all of them are located with a gap of 1.85 mm. Four heat pipes with a diameter of 6 mm are assembled in two groups in the middle part of the side sections. The total heat dissipation area here is 5856 cm². Near the side faces there are vertical strength belts made of ledges bent at 90 degrees, which prevent the plates from sticking to each other.

In profile, the radiator looks even, the heat pipes are located strictly one behind the other.

When viewed from above, you can see that the heat pipes have a diamond-shaped configuration and are located quite close. This complicates their blowing in the frontal projection.

At the base there is a clamping metal plate with a relief on top in the form of thick vertical ribs.

The heat pipes are pressed into the pressure plate with high quality and without visible gaps.

Aerocool Cylon 4

The direct contact base is made in decent quality. The tubes have gaps, but are located close enough to each other. The surface is polished radially, without visible height differences.

Let’s move on to installing and testing the cooler.
