Although the Deepcool brand is now actively developing the middle and upper price segments of the market, the company does not forget about budget chassis either. Another model from the affordable and functional Matrexx series called 40 3FS is already hardly placed in the lower price segment in terms of cost, although it formally belongs there. On the other hand, the case has added not only in price, but also in the overall quality of performance. And if you want, you can find simpler versions of it, which will undoubtedly appeal to both OEM builders and ordinary PC buyers looking for a decent and inexpensive chassis.

Packing and scope of delivery
The case is sold in a minimalist cardboard box with monochrome printing on the sides. On the front and back sides of the package there is only the name of the brand and model. Short technical specifications and information about logistics are indicated on one of the sidewalls. Protection against damage during transport is provided by foam dampers, a bag and stickers on the glass on both sides. Carry handles are cut out on the sides.
The package includes:
- 11 disposable plastic cable ties;
- assembly instructions;
- warranty leaflet;
- 18 small screws for the motherboard and 2.5″ drives;
- six case screws for the power supply and video card;
- eight hard drive screws;
- 12 screws for fixing fans.
The visual style of Deepcool Matrexx 40 3FS is made within the framework of the «black box» concept. The only original solution is a plastic front panel with ventilation in the form of a vertical grid with holes of different lengths and positions, cut into semicircular recesses. An original idea that looks good, but it will be very inconvenient to wipe the dust from it.
The external ports are located at the front of the top panel. Looking from left to right, there is a white drive activity indicator, a small square system start button, one USB 2.0 port, a combined 3.5mm headset jack, a green USB 3.0 port, and a reset key (same as the start button) . A subtle Deepcool inscription can be seen on the top edge of the front panel. Humility is good.
The left side panel is completely glass, with a black rim around the perimeter. It is held on at the back by two thumb screws and has a stamped handle for easy disassembly. To remove it, first pull it back a little, then tilt it to the side down and lift it up. It sounds complicated, but it helps not to accidentally drop the panel in the process.
The tempered glass is 4mm thick and lightly tinted. Mounting metal strips are glued to its front and back faces. The fixing screws are fixed in place, which helps a lot to avoid losing them.
The right side panel is metal, smooth and solid, with a stamped handle on the back for easy disassembly. It is held on by two thumb screws.
The stiffening ribs of the right panel are located along all its faces.
The top panel has great potential for ventilation. The large grille on it is covered with a magnetic filter in the form of a metal mesh.
The upper grille consists of figured triangular holes. Two 120- or 140-mm fans can be attached to the oblong seats in it.
The stern of the hull looks quite familiar. A 120mm fan can be attached to the top ventilation grill and its height can be adjusted. The four expansion slots are covered with disposable vented plugs, and the hole to the right of them is covered by a sliding bar, which is held on by a single thumb screw. Mounting holes located at the bottom of the power supply allow you to orient it only with the fan down.
There are four large rectangular plastic feet on the bottom of the chassis. For the power supply there is a huge ventilation grill, closed with a simple mesh filter. There are connectors and screws on the front that you can use to change the position of the drive cage. The cutout for dismantling the front panel is made on its lower edge.
The height of the legs is 20 mm. It’s funny that they don’t have any dampers. For the user, of course, it’s not a problem to pick up and stick them on their own, but why do you need such a penny savings in a not very simple chassis?
Let’s look at the interior of the case.
