Since four years ago, be quiet! for the first time I tried to enter the segment of AIO LSS systems with the Silent Loop line, a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. And only now the company dared to make a second attempt. This time with the Pure Loop range, which includes four systems with a classic range of 120, 240, 280 and 360mm radiators. We got a be quiet! cooler for review and testing. Pure Loop 280mm, which can be considered the most optimal of all the models mentioned above in terms of size in terms of performance.

Packing and scope of delivery

The cooling system is sold in a characteristic package, the dominant color of which is black. On the front and back there are illustrative images of the product with explanations of its main advantages. On the side is a table with the technical characteristics of the product.

The inner packaging is still the same traditional form of pressed cardboard, capable of absorbing a refrigerant leak if necessary. All parts are individually wrapped in plastic bags. And the radiator itself is covered with a cardboard lining to avoid crumpled fins.

In addition to the radiator, the package includes:

  • installation instructions;
  • a sheet with information about the guarantee;
  • three disposable cable ties;
  • syringe with thermal paste;
  • power adapter from Power SATA to two three-pin fan connectors;
  • fan power splitter from one four-pin connector to two;
  • two 140mm fans;
  • eight small screws for attaching the heatsink to the PC case;
  • eight long screws to fix the fans;
  • two mounting feet for AMD AM4 and AM3 sockets;
  • four plastic racks for AMD;
  • four screws for AMD paws;
  • four gaskets under the racks;
  • four metal screw clips for Intel LGA 115x and 1366;
  • four metal screw clips for Intel LGA 2066 and 2011;
  • four screws with clamps for screw clips;
  • four rubber pads under the reinforcing plate;
  • four short screws for fixing the paws;
  • reinforcing metal plate for Intel LGA 115x and 1366;
  • two mounting feet for Intel LGA 115x, 1366, 2066 and 2011.

Separately, it is worth mentioning a 100 ml jar with a replaceable refrigerant consisting of water and propylene glycol. It is so transparent and so well hidden in the box that I noticed it already when the system was packed back.

Appearance

Design by be quiet! Pure Loop 280mm could be called ordinary, if not for one distinctive feature. The fact is that the pump is not hidden in the water block, but suspended on a 400 mm hose, not far from the entrance to the radiator. Why this is done is generally clear — so that Asetek does not have formal reasons to demand payments under his famous patent. But how effective this solution is in practice, we have to check in a thermal test. Separately, it is worth noting that earlier in our review we already had a similar kind of Enermax Liqfusion 240 system, which did not show anything outstanding. I hope this time will be different.

Radiator at be quiet! Pure Loop 280mm is quite typical. Made of aluminum with banded ribs stacked at 20 FPI (plates per inch). Its dimensions are 317x140x27 mm. Between the fins are 14 channels through which the refrigerant is pumped. The weight of the equipped system, excluding fans, is 880 grams. There are two sets of holes in the slats on the sides, located close to each other and designed for mounting 140mm fans.

From the radiator, in the central part of the right manifold, having a width of 22 mm, two flexible hoses in a nylon braid with an outer diameter of 10 mm come out. They are attached to the radiator with metal clips. The plastic box of the pump «hangs» on the hoses already at a distance of 50 mm from the outlet. Inside is a motor that develops a speed of 5500 rpm. It is interesting that, apart from a quiet buzzing, it does not emit any parasitic overtones, and the noise level measured closely does not exceed 36 dB (A), which will not be heard at all from a closed case. The pump is powered by a three-pin cable, without braid, 450 mm long.

The collector on the opposite side has a thickness of 14 mm. In its central part there is a plug in the form of a usually screw with a rubber gasket. Through it, you can add liquid to the circuit. True, in the instructions this process is described very crumpled. And, in a good way, for a normal replacement of the cooler in the circuit, two holes are needed, and not one.

On the sidewalls of the radiator, the name of the Pure Loop series is indicated with paint. It is strange that without the company logo.

The waterblock is elegant. A rounded metal plate with the be quiet! logo is inserted in its central part, and an LED strip runs along the perimeter of the plate, which in working condition shows a beautiful white color. To power the backlight, a three-pin cable, 300 mm long, is used. The height of the block as a whole does not exceed 42 mm. The hull tapers into a triangular shape at the front and rear, forming mounting arches. In general, the designers tried their best.

To fix the water block to the fasteners, short spring-loaded screws are used.

The hoses are connected to the water block with angle fittings on the right side using metal clips. Easy to rotate at large angles of inclination. The backlight power cable goes into the case between them.

The base is copper, nickel-plated. It has an octagonal shape with dimensions of 54×54 mm. The shape of the sole is conical, with a protrusion in the center, which is visible even to the naked eye. Grinding grooves diverge from the center in concentric circles. The base is held in by eight screws.

The 140mm fans belong to the Pure Wings 2 series, built around a threaded sleeve bearing and a conventional motor with four windings of magnets. The frame is devoid of vibration dampers. The nine blades of the impeller are covered with branded longitudinal grooves, which should reduce turbulence and noise during operation. The speed range is controlled by PWM and ranges from 500 to 1600 rpm. The fan remains absolutely quiet up to 700 rpm and 40 dB(A). At maximum speed, the noise level reaches 57 dB(A) and is clearly audible. The length of the 4-pin unsheathed power cord is 460mm.

Assembled with fans, the total thickness of the system in the profile is 54 mm due to the protruding screw heads.

Let’s move on to installing the system and testing its effectiveness.
