But these advantages also directly follow the disadvantages of the technology — the need to limit the power of transmitters, which leads to a narrowing of the coverage area. And there is nothing to be done about it, such is the price for the introduction of high-level quadrature-amplitude modulations, which, together with the physics of the propagation of radio waves of ultra- and microwave frequencies, greatly increases the requirement for the signal-to-noise ratio at the receiver input. An increase in the transmitter power would help, but it is impossible to use this method indefinitely because of the need to stay within the permitted radiation levels, and here various roaming options come to the rescue — the process of switching wireless network subscribers from one access point, from whose service area the client leaves, to the other, in whose service area it falls. To date, Wi-Fi networks have developed and implemented IEEE802.11r and IEEE802.11k roaming standards, as well as many proprietary technologies from wireless equipment vendors. A particular case of using roaming to expand the Wi-Fi coverage area is the construction of so-called mesh networks, where each wireless router acts as a transceiver not only for clients, but also for neighboring nodes. One implementation of mesh networks called AiMesh was developed and offered by ASUSTek. Its key feature is ease of configuration and the ability to use both wireless and wired connections as a transport between network nodes. AiMesh connects up to five ASUS routers to provide reliable coverage even for large residential areas, while seamless roaming allows customers to move between nodes without losing their wireless connection. In the event of a failure of one of the routers, AiMesh will automatically rebuild and maintain its performance. To date, the list of ASUS wireless routers with AiMesh support includes 18 models, among which you can find familiar to our readers RT-AC88U, ROG Rapture GT-AC5300, RT-AX88U and RT-AX58U. The dimensions of the device are 160x75x161.5 mm, and its weight is 716 grams, which positively affects the stability of the router on any surface. There are ventilation grilles on the sidewalls of the case, and the top cover is equipped with a circular slot, which serves to remove heated air outside the product.

The wireless router is powered by a 33.25W external adapter designed to operate on 100V to 240V AC, 50Hz or 60Hz. At the output, the power supply provides a constant voltage of 19 V at a current of 1.75 A. To effectively use all this potential, the Smart Connect function is used, which unites all wireless networks under one identifier and automatically switches clients between transceivers depending on the state of the air and the need for bandwidth. Finally, it should be noted that ASUS ZenWiFi AX has Bluetooth 4.0 support, which is implemented by the Qualcomm Atheros 3012 chip and serves to establish a connection with mobile devices with the ASUS Router application installed for initial device setup.
