In the market for solid state drives, the trend continues to reduce the retail cost of devices, which is good news. High-speed SSDs with a PCI Express 3.0 x4 connection interface have ceased to be the lot of enthusiasts and are increasingly shifting to the mass segment. Today we will get acquainted with the KC2000 SSD line from Kingston, which replaced the KC1000 series released back in 2017.
The composition of the new products included four drives in total. All of them are made in the M.2 2280 form factor, equipped with a PCI Express 3.0 x4 connection interface with the NVMe 1.3 protocol and support end-to-end data protection using 256-bit AES hardware encryption, which will be useful for corporate use where the TCG Opal 2.0 standard is applied. and Microsoft eDrive. The maximum data rate depends on the modification. In the basic version of 250 gigabytes, it is limited to 3000/1100 MB / s, while in the older version of 2 terabytes it can reach 3200/2200 MB / s. The stated warranty period is 5 years.

KC2000 NVMe PCIe SSD 500GB (SKC2000M8/500G)
The average version of KC2000 came to us for testing, with a volume of 500 gigabytes of free space. The drive is shipped in a flat cardboard box with a plastic blister inside. SSDs that were imported to Ukraine through official distribution channels are additionally marked with a holographic sticker, which can be seen in the photo below.
The exact dimensions of the disk are 80x22x2, with a mass of 10 grams. The front side is covered with a sticker containing technical information about the device. Somewhat depressing is the fact that, according to the note on it, the sticker also functions as a warranty seal and removing it will void the warranty. Modern PCIe SSDs are prone to overheating and the efficiency of the heatsink will be higher with direct contact with the controller than with a buffer in the form of a piece of paper.
As for the controller, we are dealing with a very successful Silicon Motion SM2262EN microprocessor. The controller operates on an eight-channel scheme and is capable of providing data transfer rates up to 800 MT/s per channel. The memory is 96-layer 3D TLC NAND from Toshiba (8 chips, 4 on each side of the case). For the needs of the buffer, two DDR3L DRAM chips from Nanya for 128 MB are allocated (effective operating frequency is 1866 MHz).
Installing the drive does not cause any difficulties. Simply insert the drive into a suitable M.2 slot, secure with one screw, and the SSD is ready to go.
After formatting, the user will have access to 465 gigabytes of free space.
