In the first part of the material, we talked about the needs of business users, about training, and, in the end, about products for gamers. What’s next?

Acer has been analyzing the market for some time and came to the conclusion that at least 50% of gamers use their systems also for some other resource-intensive work tasks. Moreover, about 15% of all seemingly gaming laptops have never run gaming applications at all.

This is what eventually became the makings for the emergence of a new brand, called Acer ConceptD.

First of all, this brand is designed for users of various creative professions, who in their work have to use powerful systems for certain tasks. Whether you are a designer, an architect or even a video blogger, if you want to have a powerful mobile system, you would probably have to opt for some kind of gaming device, because only top-end hardware is present there for the most part. However, in this case, one would have to put up with the not entirely correct «ideology» of such laptops. Why do you need this RGB here? That is why Acer decided to rethink the class of such devices and that is why such an unusual place was chosen for the presentation this year. Acer’s main goal with this brand was to create products that were productive, but at the same time light, compact and quiet. Finally, they must have an appropriate design that fits into the concept described above.

As part of the new series, several products were presented at once, including laptops, monitors and desktops.

laptops

The top device in the line of laptops is the ConceptD 9. Its touch screen with a diagonal of 17.3 inches is placed on a hinge, with which it can rotate 180 degrees and change its position relative to the laptop keyboard.

next@acer 2019

A very similar device, which was the Predator Triton 900, we already saw at IFA last year. This immediately suggests that ConceptD, at its core, is a redesigned version of already known lines, in which the cooling system has been optimized to achieve quieter operating modes, gaming attributes have been removed, calibrated matrices have been installed and wrapped it all in a more suitable design. It probably is.

The Ultra HD (3840×2160) resolution screen has 100% Adobe RGB coverage and Delta E<1. There is support for the Wacom EMR pen.

The system will be offered on the ninth generation Intel Core i9 processor, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 chip is installed as a graphics subsystem. The amount of RAM in the basic configuration is 16 GB, expandable up to 32 GB (there are two SO-DIMM slots). The storage system is a 512 GB or 1 TB SSD in RAID 0. The noise level produced by the CO fans should not exceed 40 dB, according to Acer representatives.

ConceptD 9 can not be called lightweight, its weight is 4.1 kg with dimensions of 428×303.3×23.5 mm.

The start of sales is expected in August. ConceptD-branded devices promise to be quite expensive, for example, the cost of this laptop will be 4999 euros.

next@acer 2019

The simpler models are the ConteptD 7 and ConceptD 5. Both models have 15.6″ IPS screens with 100% Adobe RGB coverage and Delta E<2. The resolution is Ultra HD (3840x2160) and the maximum brightness is 400 nits.

next@acer 2019

The ConceptD 7 will be equipped with 9th generation Intel Core i7 processors, with a maximum configuration of 16 GB of DDR memory, expandable up to 32 GB via two SO-DIMM slots.

Depending on the configuration, either the GeFroce RTX 2080 in Max-Q design or the GeForce RTX 2060 is responsible for graphics processing.

In the “five”, the filling, logically, is simpler: the computing core here is the Intel Core i7-8705G or Core i5-8305G. There are no RAM expansion options — you will have to be content with 8 or 16 gigabytes of “RAM” soldered on the board. But as a graphics accelerator, here is a solution from AMD — Radeon RX Vega M GL.

Both models have different storage options, including up to 1TB NVMe SSD in RAID 0, along with 256GB or 512GB PCIe SSD storage.

The ConceptD 7 measures 359x255x18mm and weighs 2.1kg, while the ConceptD 5 weighs 1.5kg and measures 360x242x17mm.

Desktop systems

The relatively junior model in the ConceptD 500 line of desktops is, in fact, a top-end PC in our understanding. It is currently based on the most productive processor for the mass segment of desktop systems — Intel Core i9-9900K. The amount of RAM DDR4-2666 is 64 GB.

next@acer 2019

What distinguishes the ConceptD 500 from the usual gaming desktop is the use of an Nvidia Quadro RTX 4000 professional graphics card based on the Turing architecture. Also, the configuration implies the installation of a 1- or 2-terabyte hard drive and an M.2 2280 SSD with a capacity of 256 or 512 GB. In addition, an optional 16GB or 32GB Intel Optane Memory caching drive can be installed.

According to the manufacturer, the noise from the cooling system will not exceed 40 dB.

The top panel of the system unit is made “under the tree” and contains USB interface connectors, including one USB 3.0 and USB Type-C, as well as an SD card reader, 3.5 mm headphone and microphone jacks, indicators and a button inclusions. There is also a plane for wireless charging of mobile devices.

The top model ConceptD 900 is a dual-processor workstation based on the Intel Xeon Gold 6148 — these are 20-core CPUs (40 threads each) operating at 2.4 GHz (3.7 GHz in Turbo mode) with 27.5 MB of cache in the third level. 12 slots are available for installing DDR4 ECC RAM modules, with a total capacity of up to 192 GB. Graphics processing is done by Nvidia Quadro RTX 6000 with 24 GB of video memory on board.

next@acer 2019

The disk subsystem is represented by a 1TB SSD and two 4TB hard drives.

The ConceptD 500 costs almost 2,800 euros, but for the older model, Acer will ask for no less than 18,000 euros! The systems will go on sale this summer.

Monitors

In the line of monitors were presented two models with diagonals of 27 and 32 inches.

next@acer 2019

The CP7 27-inch monitor (model CP7271K) features a 4K panel with a resolution of 3840×2160 and a refresh rate of 144Hz at this resolution. The GTG response time is 4ms. Declared 99% support for Adobe RGB color gamut, as well as compliance with the DisplayHDR 1000 standard.

The display stand is made in a «wooden» style, akin to the ConceptD 500 desktop, apparently Acer suggests just such a combination of devices.

next@acer 2019

It is possible to adjust the screen in height, there is also the possibility of changing the angle of inclination. Of the interfaces, HDMI 2.0, Diplsay Port 1.4 are available, and there is also a built-in USB 3.0 hub for four ports. The cost of monitors CP7 is around 2099 euros.

Model CM7321K, as the name implies, has a 32″ matrix. Its maximum mode of operation is 3840×2160 at 60 Hz. This monitor is positioned as a device for designers and preparing materials for printing. It also claims 99% support for the Adobe RGB color palette and 89.5% Rec. 2020, Delta E<1.

Of the interesting features, we can note the presence of a technology in which the image is divided into 1152 separate sections, the backlight dimming level for which is adjusted individually. Also, the CM7 model, unlike the CP7, has a built-in power supply unit. Unfortunately, this model did not make it to the exhibition stand, so we can only be content with official images from the manufacturer.

next@acer 2019next@acer 2019

The Acer ConceptD CM7 is priced at €3,199 and will ship this summer.

Both presented models, among other things, have built-in speakers.

ConceptD turned out to be such a brand — it is designed for a rather narrow segment of users, has rather big price tags, but, probably, it will also find its consumers. Acer’s attempts to rethink the concept of productive devices looks interesting, let’s see what happens.
