Crazy 2020 is behind us, and ahead is hope for the best and a solid pack of games. We have been waiting for some of them for a long time, so some of the projects were on our last year’s list, others are just announced, but they should be released this year. We have collected in one place the most anticipated games for the next 12 months. There were quite a lot of projects, so the material was divided into two parts. See the top ten below.
On January 20, the third season of Hitman 3 will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X — the first adequate game of 2021 and, perhaps, the best restart of the popular series, which has been developed by IO Interactive since 2016.
Hitman 3 will be divided into episodes, but will release them all at once. The plot will throw Agent 47 in Dubai and five other locations, and the story will continue after the end of the second part. The novelty is recommended to all fans of stealth and problems in the passage, but it should not be launched by action fans and just impatient people.
Outriders is a co-op RPG shooter developed by Square Enix and People Can Fly. Initially, the game was planned to be released at the end of 2020, but now the official release date is February 2, 2021. In the list of platforms PC (Steam, Epic Games Store), PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X.
Events Outriders take place on the planet Enoch — a gloomy world with desperate inhabitants. Once it was colonized, but the project did not go according to plan, and the new home of people became a symbol of failure and a bleak future. There are many deadly creatures living on the planet, and the local fauna seems to affect the gameplay.
Outriders doesn’t seem like much of a big deal, but the game is interesting and may well come as a pleasant surprise, since its creators once made Painkiller and Bulletstorm, so there is hope for a great, lively online shooter.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake
In 2021, the remake trend continues, so one of the most anticipated games of the year for us has already become the cult Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. The project from 2003 was completely redesigned technically, but the basic gameplay mechanics and plot were left: the Prince of Persia released the Sands of Time, trying to enslave humanity and turn people into monsters. The main character understood the mistake and is trying to fix it, and the gamer will have to help him with this.
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake isn’t visually as good as I’d like it to be, but it’s the main gameplay that’s still enjoyable in the regular version. If the developers really did not touch it, but only polished it a little, then we are waiting for a remake of the year. The game will release on March 18 on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
King’s Bounty II
King’s Bounty II was in the second part of our last top, but the game has not yet been released. Moreover, the creators from 1C Entertainment have not yet announced the exact release date, but they assure that everything will happen in 2021 on PC, PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
The continuation of the cult series, which originated in 1990, promises a non-linear story with ethical dilemmas and familiar turn-based battles with new features. During the battle, King’s Bounty II is a classic turn-based strategy with hexes on the map, outside it is a third-person role-playing adventure. The general style of the project is bright and retro, which is now fashionable and can go to the “oldies”.
At E3 2019, Bethesda and Arkane Studios, best known for the Dishonored and Prey duology, announced the first-person action-thriller Deathloop. Since then, the game has had a firm release date of May 21, 2021 on PC and PS5 platforms.
The events of Deathloop unfold on the Black Reef Island, and the main characters Colt and Julianna will find themselves in a kind of time loop where they must kill each other again and again in order to get out of the time trap. The Colt guy will become the main character, and not only gamers, but also AI, when necessary, will be able to play for the girl.
Back 4 Blood
In early 2019, the studio Turtle Rock, responsible for Left 4 Dead and Evolve, announced the co-op zombie shooter Back 4 Blood. Almost two years later, the game will be released on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X on June 22nd.
They promise that Back 4 Blood will have a classic storyline and multiplayer, and the main feature will be the situation familiar from Left 4 Dead with four gamers and hordes of zombies attacking them. At the same time, the creators emphasize that the game is not the third part of Left 4 Dead and will not be free-to-play. Among other things, they promise a ton of weapons and mini-bosses, as well as a gloomy zombie-survival atmosphere.
Resident Evil: Village
The future Resident Evil: Village will be a direct sequel to Resident Evil 7. The game will tell the story of Ethan Winters. The hero will find himself in a gloomy village teeming with monsters, werewolves and other familiar, and not so familiar, creatures of the franchise. Stylistically, the game resembles the fourth part, which is considered by most fans to be the best.
The exact release date and even the month of release, the developers have not reported. But recent leaks are about April 2021. The project is being prepared for PC, PS5, Xbox Series S|X. It seems like the creators are thinking about releasing Resident Evil: Village on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 was originally expected on February 21, 2021 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series S|X, but Ubisoft has postponed the game indefinitely. True, she promised to release it this year. Rumors speak of the end of spring, but this is not certain.
Far Cry 6 will take gamers to the island of Yara, where dictator Anton Castillo (Giancarlo Esposito from Breaking Bad and The Mandalorian) rules with his devoted son Diego. The positive hero of the new story, the role of which will be assumed by the players, will be a local resident Dani Rojas. He does not want to remain under the rule of a tyrant and will arrange a revolution on the island and in its capital city of Esperanza.
For fans of the series, they promise all its main features, plus a couple of bonuses: open collisions, stealth, unique guns, new types of weapons and vehicles, as well as companions, some of which will be animals.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 was in our last selection, but a year has passed, and the project still does not have an exact release date. The game is expected on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, but the Poles from the Techland studio, the creators of the Call of Juarez and Dead Island series, have not yet been able to decide on a release time. We hope everything will happen in the next 12 months.
Dying Light 2 is a zombie action game with a large layer of RPG. The developers promise a huge city, a well-developed plot, which is directly influenced by the actions and dialogues of the gamer, an abundance of the walking dead, bewitching parkour and tough combat.
The famous Chris Avellone, the creator of Prey, Fallout: New Vegas and many other games, worked on the script of the project. True, he was recently declared harassment, so now no one will boast of his participation. In the worst case, this will even harm the game.
Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2
Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 was also on our top most anticipated games of 2020. Now the game is expected in 2021 on PC PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X.
Bloodlines 2 is being developed by Hardsuit Labs under the umbrella of Paradox Interactive and Deep Silver. Not only the creator of the first part, Brian Mitsoda, who was recently removed, is responsible for the script, but also the above-mentioned, and already disgraced, Chris Avellone. This means that the developers are unlikely to continue to boast about it, as they did before, but on occasion they may even be reminded of it in an unflattering way. True, now it is not clear whether the script was brought to mind or left to someone unknown to finish.
Recall that the original Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines was released in 2004. The game turned out to be deep and addictive, but the release took place along with GTA: San Andreas and Half-Life 2, so it went almost unnoticed. In addition, the project was scolded for a huge number of bugs. But over the years, Bloodlines has gained cult status, and unofficial patches from fans are still being released.
What games are you looking forward to in 2021? If you missed something, then write the names in the comments and share your thoughts on this matter. But do not forget that the second part will be released soon, where, perhaps, there will be a game you have been waiting for.
