We return to the older GeForce RTX to supplement and expand on past materials. We have already reviewed different versions of the GeForce RTX 2070 and GeForce RTX 2080, and also assessed the potential of the flagship GeForce RTX 2080 Ti graphics card. Now let’s sum up the overall results by comparing the top three models of the new generation with the solutions of the previous series and the representative of AMD.

Expanded list of test applications, more test modes. All tests were carried out in two high resolutions — WQHD (2560×1440) and 4K (3840×2160). There will be no reviews of individual video cards, since their technical and design features were described in previous reviews. We restrict ourselves to a brief mention of the participants and links to the relevant reviews.

Let us first remind you that in the new series of video cards, the older versions of NVIDIA’s Founders Edition received a slight factory overclock. Full specifications are provided in the Turing Architecture Review.

GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition

Standard design video adapter from NVIDIA. Instead of the usual “turbine”, the new GeForce received cooling with a larger radiator and two fans. However, with the increased heat dissipation of a top-end accelerator, operating temperatures easily reach 81–84 °C even with such a cooler. Read more in our review.

The heart of the graphics card is the TU102 GPU with 4352 stream processors, 272 texture units, 544 tensor units and 68 RT cores. The minimum core frequencies for models in this series are as follows: the base value is 1350 MHz, the average Boost Clock is 1545 MHz. For Founders Edition, this combination of frequencies is 1350/1635 MHz. Real frequencies in game mode can approach 1700 MHz. On board the video card is 11 GB of a new type of GDDR6 memory with an effective frequency of 14000 MHz.

GeForce RTX 2080 Founders Edition

This graphics card is being replaced by the ASUS DUAL-RTX2080-O8G, a model with identical frequency response and similar thermal performance.

At the heart of the TU104 processor with 2944 stream processors, 184 texture units, 368 tensor cores, 46 RT cores. Memory bus 256 bit, 8 GB. The core frequency of ASUS (Founders Edition) is 1515 MHz at the base value and Boost 1800 MHz instead of the 1515/1710 MHz formula for the simplest versions. GDDR6 memory runs at 14000 MHz.

GeForce RTX 2070 Founders Edition

The GeForce RTX 2070 graphics card comes in two versions as we had different levels of models in stock. Founders Edition replaces ASUS DUAL-RTX2070-O8G with identical frequency response.

Based on the TU106 core with 2304 stream processors, 288 texture units, 288 tensor cores and 36 RT cores. Memory bus 256 bit, 8 GB. The frequencies of the older version (Founders Edition) correspond to 1410/1710 MHz (base value and Boost). This model has only been tested at face value.

GeForce RTX 2070

A simpler version in the face of the MSI GeForce RTX 2070 Armor 8G.

Comparison of GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2070 graphics cards

This video card has a base core frequency of 1410 MHz with a Boost Clock of 1620 MHz. Effective memory frequency 14000 MHz. Tests conducted at nominal and overclocked

GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

Reference video card Founders Edition, which in the past generation meant only standard frequencies.

Comparison of GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2070 graphics cards

At the heart of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition is the GP102 GPU with 3584 stream processors, 160 texture units, and 64 ROP units. Base core clock 1480 MHz with Boost Clock 1582 MHz. GDDR5X memory operates at an effective frequency of 10,000 MHz on a 352-bit bus.

GeForce GTX 1080

This series is represented by the MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming X 8G, but the frequencies are lowered to match the performance level of the reference versions.

Comparison of GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2070 graphics cards

The standard specification calls for a base value of 1607 MHz with a Boost Clock of 1733 MHz, the memory operates at an effective frequency of 10000 MHz on a 256-bit bus. The MSI frequencies were reduced so that the average Boost value was around 1750 MHz to match the characteristics of simple video cards in this series.

Radeon RX Vega 64

The family of AMD graphics accelerators is represented by the reference Radeon RX Vega 64 air-cooled. The other day the new Radeon VII came out, but it is still far from the status of a mass product. I had to operate with what is available at the time of testing. We will devote future reviews to the confrontation between Radeon VII and GeForce RTX.

Comparison of GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, GeForce RTX 2080 and GeForce RTX 2070 graphics cards

The Radeon RX Vega 64 uses a GPU with HBM2 memory. The average core frequency in Boost mode is 1546 MHz. The memory operates at an effective frequency of 1890 MHz, data is exchanged through a 2048-bit bus.
